Syracuse, N.Y. -- West Genesee has hired one of the best players in program history as new head coach of girls lacrosse.
Shannon (Burke) Musak, a 2003 graduate of West Genesee, led the team to three state championships and twice earned All-American honors.
She went on to star at Connecticut, where she earned the 2007 Big East Midfielder of the Year award after leading the nation in scoring (6.25 ppg) and assists (3.62 apg). A three-time All-Big East first team honoree, Burke was also selected to the 2007 All-America second team.
“She’s been there. She’s competed at the highest level,” said West Genesee athletic director Mike Burns. “She knows what it takes to be the best. I think she’ll be able to relate to the kids, and the kids will be able to relate to her.”
Burke most recently worked as an assistant coach for Fayetteville-Manlius. She is also a long-time youth lacrosse coach and formerly worked as director of operations for women’s lacrosse at Syracuse.
She replaces Drew White, who resigned earlier this summer.
